Sustainability project at De Boer Machines Nederland B.V.: A year in a Nutshell

In the past year, we, Rianne and Matthijs have worked with a great deal of enthusiasm at Boer Machines Nederland B.V. This project has not only given us the opportunity to put our academic knowledge into practice, but also to make a valuable contribution to the sustainability vision of the company.

First semester: integral analysis

Our adventure started in the first semester with an integral analysis of the current situation at De Boer Machines Nederland B.V. On the basis of the Six Capitals method, we investigated the various aspects of sustainability within the company and identified where improvements were possible. Our main question  emerged from this intensive analysis:

“How can De Boer Machines Nederland BV increase awareness among employees about circularity and sustainability, both within the way of thinking like an employee and in the context of improve internal processes, with the aim of encouraging a culture of sustainability and to make concrete steps to more circular business operations?”

We realized that this was a crucial first step to be able to a successful implementation of further sustainable initiatives.

Second semester: Design Thinking Method

With our main question as a starting point, we started working with a core team of employees in the second semester. We opted for the Design Thinking Method, an iterative and people-oriented approach for finding creative solutions. During various sessions with the core team, we have generated ideas, developed prototypes, and collected feedback.

Result: the content calendar

One of the most tangible results of our efforts is the content calendar that we have drawn up. This calendar is filled with various types of information, steps to be taken, and content that contributes to the route for more circular business operations. Thanks to this structured approach, we ensure that sustainability becomes a part of daily practice within De Boer Machines Nederland B.V.

Looking back on the past year, we are proud of what we have achieved. The project has not only led to concrete tools to promote sustainability but has also increased awareness among employees. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team and look forward to future sustainability developments at Boer Machines Nederland B.V.
